ASID’s GATHER 2023 Conference Explores the Future of Design

Interior Design joined the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) for GATHER 2023, the organization’s national conference held in Los Angeles, August 13-15. “ASID’s GATHER conference facilitates the exchange of ideas in the design community and fosters the next generation of design for our world,” says ASID CEO Khoi Vo. “Keynote speakers at GATHER are a comprehensive representation from the worlds of design, art, business, and sustainability, offering attendees information and inspiration to apply in design practice.”

Speakers included author, television host, and philanthropist Simon T. Bailey; interior designer, author, and television host Genevieve Gorder; and product and interior designer and artist Christian Dunbar. CBS News senior national and environmental correspondent Benjamin Tracy also moderated a panel exploring the role the built environment plays when it comes to protecting the planet and climate.

Festivities continued with a celebration of ASID’s 2023 awards winners during a Hollywood-themed reception, honoring people, firms, and projects that exemplify excellence in design. Honors included the ASID Ones to Watch program, the ASID Student Portfolio Competition, the ASID Foundation Scholarships and Grants, and the organization’s highest professional recognition, the ASID National Awards.

GATHER 2023 featured plenty of learning opportunities too, including sessions focused on three key areas of design: Health, Safety, and Welfare; Applied Research; and Small Business Solutions. But the event wasn’t all business. Attendees were invited to connect with colleagues—and themselves—during an outdoor yoga session, among other activities. Interactive installations throughout also encouraged attendees to tap into their creativity, spotlighting the impact of design in its many forms.
